Marbling Workshops

Now and again we are able to offer various workshop options.

Once or twice a year we fill the car up and head down to Devon to the Blackdown Hills where we teach an informal and fun marbling workshop in amazing surroundings at The Old Kennels.
We are teaching a beginners marbling workshop in May and an improvers workshop in July.
For more information please visit the website: www.theoldkennels.co.uk

Last Saturday 12th March we held a workshop in Salisbury for a bookbinding group.
It was a really fun day and we were so lucky as the weather was great with hardly any wind so it meant that we could dry the marbled papers outside - always a bonus as it means the papers can dry much quicker.

These workshops are light-hearted and focus on producing exciting and fun designs based on many traditional techniques like Turkish Spots and Spanish Ripples as well as creating Ebru pieces.
Me and Craig run the workshops together which ensures that everything runs ship shape and we can attend to everyones questions. Its always difficult to find the time to take too many photographs but I kept my phone in my apron pocket and remembered to take a few snaps, so there are some pictures  below from the day, albeit not great quality ones!

Workshops are generally only undertaken within about an hours travel time of our own workshop and are dependant upon the facilities at the space, we need lots of space and good access to water.
At the current time we are unable to travel to London for workshops but this may change in the future.

I also run 1-2-1 workshops from our studio here in Wiltshire. Dates are fairly infrequent, perhaps just one or two a month, so if you would like to be notified of future dates you can email us on jemmamarbling@sky.com and we will contact you with dates as they become available.
These workshops at our studio are 4 hour afternoon sessions where we cover many aspects of paper marbling and you get to produce full sized sheets - 510mm x 750mm which will be yours to keep.

The Art of Marbling | Crafting a beautiful book

This is a video made by The Folio Society of me in my workshops creating the hand marbled papers for the Shakespeare Letterpress editions.
These are still one of my favourite designs and papers to produce.
They came in 3 different colour-ways depending upon whether the book was a Tragedy, Comedy or History. All were produced on a coloured base paper and include metallic gold.

Back to Blogging!

Hello! I just wanted to stop by to tell you all that I'm going to get back to blogging and to watch this space for lots of lovely new posts about all the interesting marbling projects we have been working on recently! Our Big Cartel shop has been fully up and running now for some time and many beautiful marbled papers have been shipped all over the world. Thank you to everyone that has ordered and everyone who has taken a look at the shop. We are regularly putting one-off sheets and new designs on the shop including our recently designed NEW MALACHITE design which has been greeted very well. If you are on Instagram please do come and follow us @jemmalewismarbling - we shall be doing our very first giveaway when we hit 2000 followers!! We constantly post pictures of what we have been up to day-to-day in our little marbling studio! I'm also working on our latest newsletter so if you would like to sign-up for this please send us an email (jemmamarbling@sky.com) with the subject 'Newsletter' and we will add you to our mailing list. Newsletters cover all our recent exploits, projects and news. As part of our mailing list we also, from time-to-time, send out special offers for our assorted stock bundles and these have in the past proved very popular. We have been offering a bespoke design service to many Designers and branding companies. We have been fortunate to work with many different companies recently on a varied range of bespoke designs to be used in all sorts of creative ways including Building projects, Interiors, the music industry and packaging projects. We have also produced lots of papers to be used in brochures and point of sale materials and continue to produce large quantities of matching papers for Bookbinders and publishers. Our work continues with the Folio Society and we recently received lovely feedback from one of their customers who had purchased a limited edition book from them. Here is a snippet of the very heart warming review we received which we loved reading and made all the hard work seem so worthwhile!! "The hand marbling surpasses the first edition of Great Expectations I own whose binding was designed by the Riviere Bindery. Until this volume that was the king of my collection. The king has been surpassed and by a duke. The marbling on this volume, to a collector, is nothing short of breathtaking. The Marbled endpapers in themselves are rich and tasteful and eye-catching. But when you see the effect of the marbled page edges visually meeting the endpapers when the book is open, well, it is astounding. It may well be that this book is the finest modern example of the technique." So lovely to have received this! We will be increasing our standard paper range shortly and will include many of our recent Metallic Gold, Silver, Copper and bronze designs which have been very popular recently. Thank you all for your continued support. Jemma. Jemma Lewis Marbling & Design.
